Phase Two - The Foundation, The Arts, The Fundraising

March 2008 - The African Soul, American Heart Foundation incorporated in March 2008 to use the arts (video, photography, and literary), with education and church-related efforts to raise funds and awareness to build an orphanage in Duk Payuel, South Sudan.

Spring/Summer 2008 - Editing of video footage and shooting additional scenes for documentary, African Soul, American Heart.

Fall 2008 - Premiere African Soul, American Heart documentary at the Fargo Theatre to kick off a community fundraiser for the orphanage. Enter the documentary in film festivals. Use it at speaking engagements to help us bring aid to this forgotten part of the world.

Phase Three - Plans

January 2009 - Begin construction of facility to house and care for 50 orphans in Duk Payuel, South Sudan.

May 2009 - African Soul, American Heart Center opens.

Phase One - Thank You

With the help of our local community as well as family and friends from as far away as Germany, we raised more than $30,000, completing Phase One of our fundraising. These funds allowed our three-person film crew and Joseph to travel to Kakuma Refugee Camp in northern Kenya and to Duk Payuel in Duk County, South Sudan. There we shot nearly thirty hours of amazing footage of the people, sights, and sounds of these isolated areas in Africa.

Please contact Deb Dawson (or call 701-478-7800) if you want more information, wish to schedule a speaking engagement, or are interested in helping us relieve suffering in South Sudan.
